Miami-based bedroom artist Jiubel is someone you’ll want to keep on your radar moving forward… especially after listening to his brand new EP.
ren is a 6-track invitation into the mind of Jiubel, exploring topics of falling in and out of love, growing up, and learning more about himself in the grand scheme of things. Indie elements mixed with a pop backdrop make for an easy, but smooth listen from start to finish. Go on a sonic journey with his new track “Deceived” and be right at home with single “Notice Me”.
We had the chance to catch up with Jiubel to toss him a few questions. The one red thread throughout the conversation is his matter-of-factness, which makes for an honest, down-to-earth chat.

Jiubel! Great to chat with you – I’ve been jamming your catalog recently and am a big fan! I swear ‘runnin’ has been stuck in my heads for weeks now…

Where are you based out of right now?
Right now I’m in Miami. It’s where I was born and raised. I love it here.
I read you got your unlikely start in music on GarageBand after getting grounded… you have to explain more of this story haha.
Well, I pretty much had nothing to do. My mom took away my video games and she did not
allow me to hang out with my friends so I was bored out of my mind. I saw my dad’s laptop
sitting on the kitchen counter and I started using it. That was when I stumbled upon Garageband
and decided to record my first song. I won’t lie, the song was horrible, but it was my first song –
it’s what started it all. This all happened because I did not attend an SAT prep class that my
mom signed me up for during the summer. That’s why she grounded me.
Your sound kind of reminds me of Aries in a way… I know it’s sometimes taboo to compare artists, but I mean that in the most positive way. He’s one of my favorite artists in the past few years!
Aries is a great artist! I’ve definitely listened to him before. When it comes to artists that have
inspired me, I’d have to say that most of them came from the Soundcloud era. The main artist
that inspired me was XXXTENTACION. He inspired me because of how versatile he was. He
didn’t stick to one genre and that really stood out to me.
You’ve been developing a cool following on TikTok.. can you talk a little bit about that?
TikTok has really helped propel my music career. It has helped me get my sound in front of
millions of ears. I used to post gaming clips on TikTok, and then I would put my music in the
background of those gaming clips. But my tiktok started growing like crazy when I started
making personalized songs about my followers. My followers would ask me to make songs
about dark situations that occurred to them, and I would simply make light out of the dark
situation through a song. This created one of the most engaging communities on TikTok and I’m
really grateful for it. My followers are the best.
ren comes out in a matter of days… what are you most excited for?
I’m just excited to get more music out there. I feel like the songs on ren are the best songs i’ve
created so far. I’m also excited because it’s my debut EP. I’ve wanted to drop an EP since I
started making music when I was 17.
Can you explain the general premise behind the project?
The general premise of this project is about the emotions you feel when you fall for someone. It
might seem like a mess, but that’s how falling for someone usually goes. It’s not all sunshine
and rainbows like movies make it seem.
Any upcoming shows?
As of right now, I’m not sure yet. I’ve actually never performed. I’ve been doing everything from
my room. I do have a feeling that in 2023 I will have a show for the first time. I can’t wait for that.
If you were an inanimate object what would you be and why?
I’d be a fish tank. I’d be the tank itself. Fish tanks are so peaceful and to be honest the only
reason I want to be rich is to be able to buy cool expensive things for my fish tank. I’d be a fish
tank so i can watch the corals and the fish all day.
