Deviate is proud to present a fresh, new curated playlist called Deviate & Chill. This collection is filled with a blend of lofi, pop, melodic, and ambient beats that will make any day a little bit better. I was able to chat with dev, Covex, and Lewis regarding the backstory behind their respective songs. See below for their comments! Great humans and great artists.

dev soter – hills

Massachusetts own dev soder gives us his tune “hills”. This track is an honest depiction of what he (and most of us) is going through right now: the notion that (I guess) we have to grow up sometime. It’s also extremely catchy. Super excited for his upcoming releases in the new year.

“It’s about the pressure of change and the anxieties of growth, wanting to leave my current situation and move on to something bigger. I wanted to make the production more upbeat so it felt like a more positive outlook on the situation.”

Covex – Breakaway

Covex is a budding melodic electronic producer from Colorado. His music has received support from artists such as Illenium, San Holo, and Slow Magic. I added “Breakaway” to the playlist because of its fast-paced, upbeat take on melodic. Expect Covex to make big moves in 2021.

From Covex….

“Breakaway was a super fun song to write. Cozmoe sent me stems to one of his WIP’s he was working on, I then added more elements and changed the arrangement around to be more energetic. We then reached out to Cxssidy for vocals and she came back within a matter of a few days with some really solid lyrics and melodies. This song continues to do some pretty incredible things for us. I’m glad it connects with people the way it does.”

Lewis Kelly – hurting you is inevitable

Lewis Kelly is an 18-year-old singer/songwriter from Manchester. He had a very humble stance on his tune, admitting he wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out. I’d say it turned out pretty well. I can’t wait to see where Lewis takes his music next… now that he’s signed with a division of Universal.

From Lewis…

“I wrote the song in a way of kind of feeling like a burden in a romantic type of way… like I wanted to make the song sound energetic & upbeat, but the lyrics are completely opposite. It was an aim before I wrote it and I’m kind of glad it worked out! It’s an honour to be added to a playlist, which I think is extremely fitting for the song and the company on the playlist is class, theres some incredible artists!”
