Buckle up, folks! Our favorite season is finally here. That means bops galore for Deviate to cover.
Summertime rolls around and before you know it, you’re submerged in a euphoric, dream-like state. The songs released in-season are the soundtrack to this mirage.
I had the pleasure of catching up with Vicu, a Maryland-based electro-pop artist to discuss his latest single “Focused On You.” This track radiates summer energy. The subject of Vicu’s affection described in these lyrics clearly exudes beauty from the inside out. “Focused On You” is Vicu’s attempt to ensure his lover knows they’re his top priority. With vocals reminiscent of Marc E. Bassy, he is sure to make a name for himself in the music industry. Taking influence from the likes of Justin Bieber, Bazzi, Bruno Mars, and Drake – Vicu hopes to follow a similar path of merging both the R&B and pop worlds.
Vicu himself is a triple-threat: a self-made singer/songwriter, producer, and audio engineer – which moves mountains in the industry. Being a multi-disciplinary artist translates into self-determination within one’s mastery, which is vital in a business as saturated as the music industry.
Deviate: Vicu – we here at Deviate are so excited to have the opportunity to chat with you about your latest song “Focused On You” – can you give us a little insight as to who or what inspired you to produce this track?
Vicu: I really wanted to make “Focused On You” because I’ve been wanting to make a song that gets across the feelings of my experience of the ‘falling in love’ phase of a relationship.
Deviate: Of your released music, which song are you most proud of & why?
Vicu: “Focused On You” is definitely the record I’m most proud of at the moment. I think this is one of my most solid records I’ve written and produced thus far as it pertains to the radio.
Deviate: When did you first begin teaching yourself how to produce & engineer music? What aspect of the creating process is your favorite & why?
Vicu: Honestly every bit of the creative process is my favorite. I started self teaching at around the age of 8. I really got into the production/ engineering side when I was 16-17.
Deviate: What are your aspirations for yourself as an artist? What is your personal definition of success?
Vicu: My end goal is to be able to do music as my job for the rest of my life. If I can do that I’ll have been successful.
Deviate: If you could pick any artist, past or present, to have dinner with, who would it be & why?
Vicu: Billie Eilish. I say this because I think we are both similar in our upbringing and I think she’s somebody who could really give some great & honest advice towards the industry and how to deal with it.
Deviate: Last but not least – can you give us a sneak peek at what’s in store for Vicu? Do you have any live shows or anything else you’d like us to promote?
We are currently talking about potentially shopping me as an opener for other artists. Meanwhile, I am focused on making my debut album and pushing my new single “Focused On You” which is out on all platforms along with a killer lyric video!
BIG ups to Vicu for his time. We here at Deviate look forward to watching his evolution as an artist!
Be sure to check out “Focused On You,” available on all platforms, and while you’re at it – go ahead and add it to your summer playlist!
Vicu is certainly a Deviate. 🙂
